FATHER JAMES H. LOEW, O.S.B.
Father James H. Loew, O.S.B., was born in Cleveland, Ohio on January 4, 1967. He
is the son of James and Helen (Socolovitch) Loew of Medina, Ohio.
He attended Incarnate Word Grade School in Parma Heights, Ohio, and is a 1985
graduate of Medina High School. In 1990, Father James received a bachelor degree
in sociology from Kent State University. He received a master of divinity degree
from Saint Vincent Seminary in 1996.
Father James entered the monastic community on July 1, 1991, and made simple
profession of vows on July 10, 1992 and solemn profession of vows on July 11,
1995. He was ordained a deacon on May 14, 1996, and a priest on May 31, 1997 by
the Most Rev. Anthony Bosco, Bishop of Greensburg, at Saint Vincent Archabbey
He served the Monastic community as sacristan (1992), director of the sacristy
(1993-1996) and with the Archabbey Lay Retreat Program (1992-1993). He has been
an assistant archivist (1994-1996). Father James served his deacon internship at
Sacred Heart Church, Jeannette (1996-1997), and served as parochial vicar there
from 1997-2002. He was then named parochial vicar at Saint Marys Parish, St.
Marys until May 2005, when he was appointed temporary parochial administrator.
From 2006 to 2007 he was curator of the Archabbey Coin and Stamp Collections.
From 2006-2010 he served as director of Sacristies. From 2008-2009 he was
assistant master of ceremonies and from 2007-2009 he was manager of the
Gristmill General Store. From 2008-2009 he served as assistant manager of the
In 2009 he was appointed pastor of Saint Gertrude Parish, Vandergrift. In
February 2014, Christ the King Parish and St. Gertrude Parish were partnered.
Father James continues his appointment as Pastor of St. Gertrude Parish, while
also serving as Administrator for Christ the King Parish. In addition, he
serves as Clergy Moderator for Region II.
